Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate

‘Haskell was a new name to me and The Wine Advocate, but these samples were impressive. I look forward to tasting more in the future.’ Wine Advocate Dec 2012

The most powerful wine publication on the planet published some impressive reviews on Haskell, as follows,

Haskell Anvil Chardonnay 2010

Quantities are very limited. Cropped at just 11 hectoliters per hectare, whole berry pressed and raised in 50% new French oak for 11 months on the gross lees, the 2010 Anvil Chardonnay has a crisp, precise bouquet with attractive scents of dried apricot and white peach, the oak very well integrated into the aromatic profile. The palate is crisp and very well balanced, fanning out nicely from a citric beginning to a Clementine, apricot and hazelnut-tinged finish. Coming in at 12.9% alcohol, this is a well-crafted Stellenbosch Chardonnay. Drink now-2015  91 points

Haskell II 2009

A blend of 50% Shiraz, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Mourvedre raised in 40% new French barriques for 16 months, the 2009 Haskell “II” has a light but elegant bouquet with great purity, raspberry and a touch of crushed violets with just a touch of reduction. The palate is medium-bodied with fine balance and supple tannins. The acidity lends it freshness and tension towards the crisp blackberry, plum and briary finish. This is a very fine wine from Haskell that should age nicely over 3-5 years. Drink now-2015 90 points

Haskell Pillars Syrah 2008

The 2008 Pillars Syrah underwent 50% carbonic maceration and matured in 60% new oak for 14 months. It has a lovely, understated, delicate bouquet that is quite floral in style. There is a touch of reduction on the entry, but it is very well balanced with crisp acidity that leads to a deft finish of mulberry, dark berried fruits and a touch of black tea. This is very well crafted. Drink now-2016. 92 points
