Description
Winemaker’s comment
Windy growing and ripening periods resulted in smaller berries, which lead to good concentration of both, colour and flavour.
Vinification
All the grapes were harvested by hand. The different vineyard blocks were vinified and kept separate for the entire maturation period. The grapes were crushed and immediately set to fermentation. Pump-overs 4 times a day with punch downs. Extended post maceration was done resulting on the wine being 30 days on the skin. This allows the wine to produce softer, more approachable tannins. The wine was pressed into French oak barrels and left for aging for 12 months before blending and bottling took place.
Soil & Terroir
The soil consists of 10% clay with the balance medium sand to coarse gravel on a North-Western slope for 2 of the blocks. The row direction is 45° West of North. Block 4 is on a flatter piece with substantial rocks. Block 8, our only South facing block, is planted in coarse gravel. Water management is done by drip irrigation.
Tasting note
The BRS shows notes of upfront black and red berry fruits, raspberries, plums and cranberries. The palate is juicy with complex berry flavour followed by a hint of star anise. Tannins structure of this wine is powdery with integrated acidity that allows it to be consumed when it is still young. Enjoy this wine now or cellar it between 7-10 years.
